Interview Blunders

I'm sure many of us get extremely nervous during interviews, and we might have said a stupid thing or two.

But some of the stories I've heard from the interviewers are really hilarious.

These two situations REALLY happened!

This seems to be a trend that I am noticing among young executives these days, especially when I observe most signing themselves up for long-term commitments (i.e. cars, home, etc.) and spending heavily (i.e. entertainment, mobile phones, etc.) when they don't even have enough savings to last for a year.

I am sure most have gone through their stages when they spend off their first paycheck, sign up for easy payment solutions which promises 0% interest at the expense of future income. It would be okay to indulge yourselves once in a while but do it wisely and save in the process, and pray hard that despite the rising inflation and economic conditions that you still have something saved up :)

Promotion Parley

Understandably, it's tough to promote a suborinate sometimes. Various factors have to be taken into account - the person's past performance, experience and managerial capabilities, how his/her colleagues will react, how to justify that person's promotion to HR, etc...

Yet it's also very tough on the employee who thinks s/he ought to be promoted but it just isn't happening.

I must stress that my comics are not necessarily a result of my own personal experiences (in case my colleagues ever see this). I'm very busybody and often hear "stories" from all over. So...ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies ;-)

Time Flies

This strip is based on my own experience and I am sure most of you would always have neglected someone important just because there was work. Work will always be there but times with our loved ones last just for that moment and if we miss it then it's gone. I also take the chance to apologize to all my loved ones and dear friends when I always thought I did not have the time to keep in touch. I am a different person now though, people comes first before work, especially LOVED ONES!

We Are Always Wrong

Once again, this was inspired by a true story of one of my friends. May God have mercy on his sanity in dealing with his boss :), I sincerely feel bosses should not be so fickle-minded, should give clear instructions and not act as if they are always finding fault with their sub-ordinates. Like in this case, no particular limit was given to my friend, EVEN AFTER asking for it!

Different Directions

Ever had bosses who are heading different directions, but could never come to a consensus?

Guess who are the ones who suffer?

The moral of the story is, always leave the Board room with ONE decision.

It doesn't matter how the outcome was reached - whether by majority vote or the person highest in hierachy putting his/her foot down, making the decision and taking responsibilty for it.

After that, it doesn't matter what the difference of opinion were. Statements like, "It's a stupid decision! Let's do it the right way" or "Actually ah...I don't agree with the decision wan. But what to do? They pay my salary so I follow lor" will only divide the organisation.

Even worse is when no one wants to be seen as the bad guy so they make no decision and pull their subordinates in different directions.

An organisation without unity will eventually fall apart...after much pain.

"Tai Chi" Skills

My first contribution! My dad saw me drawing and said, "Huh? You can draw wan meh?" Well, I can't, really. I can draw stick figures, scan it into the computer and then make use of my Photoshop skills. I couldn't even produce a comic that fit within the width limit. This story was inspired by a colleague of mine when she had this actual conversation with the CEO of the company and the CEO was really speechless after her reply.

Despite our best intentions to help, we are at times often misunderstood by the very people that we are trying to help. I reckon that either they really don't see the benefit or might be plain dumb at times.
